I’ve been a volunteer crew leader with Habitat for Humanity since 2004. Once a week (sometimes twice a week) I help build homes for hardworking needy families throughout the Los Angeles area.
I barely knew which end of a hammer to hold when I started, but over the years, I’ve learned enough about construction that I can now teach groups of rank beginners how to roof a house, tile a floor, install base molding, or attach siding. I’ve participated in every phase of building a home, from laying the foundation to installing the front door. I even wrote an article about it for Southwest Spirit Magazine.
And I’ve met some really interesting people along the way.
